What is the point of jealousy?

Like, what is the evolutionary or cultural advantage was born out of such a stupid feeling. And I’m not just referring to jealousy in relationships, but also of being jealous that someone looks better or has something cooler than you.

I guess I’m hard-pressed to see the value of the emotion. That doesn’t mean that I am above it, though.

I see it as 2 things:

    1. It’s a primitive emotion we have to protect what we think is ours.

    2. We’ve been brainwashed to always want more and sometimes to want something you need to see someone else have it and feeling good about it more than you feel about yourself. Then our senses say, if I had that, then I may feel as awesome as they feel. Blamo, you are jealous they have it and you want it.

    face it, it sucks.

I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Matthew. Though i would submit that our envy at others is a part of an evolutionary drive to better ourselves. the issues then comes in as to what is “better”. And that’s how things can become a bit more subjective.
